What you should know about MorAy Gallery
The images in this exhibition traverse the past five years of the artist’s digital explorations a personal history of recurring themes and locations revisited. By combining her art, photography and design skills, motifs have been taken from camera to computer and rearranged creatively, imposing a designed aesthetic utilising repetition, reflection, symmetry and distortion. They reveal an ongoing interest in the pattern potential of her surroundings, whether in natural history or an urban built heritage, and allude to past cultures and art forms where the decorative was integrated with the functional. None of the images venture far from their reference to nature even when the original source is man made and mass produced the resulting effect is very organic.
The patterns of the universe run through everything, macro and micro, as it was and ever will be interwoven actions and reactions, cycles of decline and regeneration
I have a pragmatic approach to painting I paint what I see in the landscape intuitively and with vigor, trying to evoke expressive feelings. Re cycled materials and objects have been old and interpreted to create these trivial 3 dimensional objects. In maximum cases the initial discussion is about authenticity and value is it worth having conserved? These potent sculptural, triangular shapes have inspired my work for some time. Both artists have created their artworks by the process of reduction relief printing.
Maximum of these portraits, were completed while we were all living together in our home in Karitane. These events have generated the form and direction of my art over the last five years. I have been painting now for many years I completed a Diploma in Fine Arts with Hons from Otago Art School in 1991. Katy Bess graduated in 1992 from Otago Polytechnic School of Art, Dunedin with a Diploma in Nice Arts honors.
Her prints and artists books have been exhibited in Fresh Zealand and internationally. I graduated from Art School in Dunedin in 1991 and I have been painting portraits ever since, mainly by commission. Although I moved to Christchurch behind graduation, Dunedin is calm the city I have had the maximum exhibitions in. It is inspired by the rugged St Clair beach and the delightful cafes and other buildings that have been developed to produce us with places to reflect and appreciate the incredible beach and its surrounds. This series of paintings are not direct illustrations of the events but there are allusions to crosses.
00 Central Otago Autumn 250. 00 Central Otago Orchard 250. The portraits are of Dunedin people the environment they are in is the colors they bring or create. Life has times of darkness, suffering and pain, as well as times of great ecstasy and light. Sand and Sea 379. She studied Art at the University of siege between 1985 until 87, and had several group exhibitions during that time. She moved on in 1987 to study Art and Art therapy at the University in Nurtingen, completing her study with a Bachelor Degree of art therapy in 1989
