Amalgamated Builders has an extensive history with over 40 years of construction experience in New Zealand, starting in Invercargill and spreading to four branches across the South Island. Today, the Invercargill operation is the largest construction firm in the city, and continues to have a strong loyal core of trades people and management staff. Our expertise of regional conditions affecting construction, team attitude, and close working relationships in the community, combined with the most advanced building techniques and materials, has given ABL Invercargill the edge on numerous major high profile construction projects. Projects the firm has managed span the retail, healthcare, education and public amenities sector, including BNZ regional developments, H J Smith store upgrade, Southern District Health Board projects, Southern Institute of Technology projects, Mega Mitre 10 site redevelopment, Ministry of Education regional projects, new Placemakers and Opus House.

A key ABL pojnt of difference’ is that we directly employ a multi trade workforce in each of the four South Island regions that we operate in. Each one of our four regional Directors Managers focuses on delivering projects in their geographical area with a senior management team using their diverse range of industry experience and competencies to shape the strategic direction of the company. Since then we’ve undertaken a number of key Christchurch projects, including the completed construction of a combined warehouse and office building on Blenheim Road, the transformation of an old warehouse into the new Three Boys Brewery building in Woolston. Currently we’re working on the multi million dollar rebuild, repairs and refurbishment of the iconic Chateau on the Park Hotel. Amalgamated Builders has an extensive history with over 40 years’ of construction experience in New Zealand, starting in Dunedin in 1989, when the company was awarded the contract for the Oncology Unit at the city’s public hospital. Since then, the relationship between the University city and ABL has been superb. As a result of ABL’s performance in these and other public sector works, the Dunedin office now specialises in large scale and long term projects, such as the Dunedin Casino, University of Otago halls of residence commercial kitchens, the University Oval refurbishment, The University’s School of Maori Studies Te Tumu, the Moana Pool gym expansion and most recently the Dunedin Town Hall. We are a proudly South Island owned and operated construction business, with a heritage that stems from a commitment to building long lasting relationships with our clients based on trust and mutual respect.

We’ve completed many high profile jobs over the years notably the multi award winning landmark Sofitel Hotel complex, the Queenstown Events Centre and Millennium Hotel. Amalgamated Builders Limited ABL is a privately owned construction company that has operated in the South Island since 1972. By 1972 it was clear that the company needed to expand and Graeme went in to partnership with another Invercargill builder Steve Farrant and Amalgamated Builders was born.
